Delhi University win KIIT Premier League

Delhi University emerged champions in the 5th KISS Premier League (KPL) T20 Inter-University Cricket Tournament, outplaying SRM University (Chennai) by five wickets in the final at KIIT Campus here today. Altogether 14 universities took part in the lucrative tournament.

The champions received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, the runners-up Rs 50,000 and the losing semifinalists (Ravenshaw University and KIIT University) Rs 10,000 each. Pradeep Parashar (Delhi University) won both the man of the match and best bowler of the tournament prizes, which made him richer by Rs 8,000.

Seshdeep Patra of Ravenshaw University pocketed Rs 10,000 as the man of the tournament, while Soumya Ranjan Mohanty (KIIT University) and S Karthik (SRM) were given Rs 3,000 each as the best batsman and best wicketkeeper respectively.

Former India stumper Saba Karim and swing bowler Debasis Mohanty handed over the trophy and prizes at the closing function. KIIT founder Dr Achyuta Samanta, Vice-chancellor Dr AS Kolaskar, Registrar Dr Sasmitarani Samanta and Joint-registrar Dr Sucheta Priyabadini were present on the occasion.

BRIEF SCORE: SRM University 111/10 (Aswini Kumar 46 n.o; Javed Khan 2/14) lost to Delhi University 115/5 in 18.4 overs (Rabi Shankar 37, Surinder Dahiya 25; Aswini Kumar 2/12, Aushik Srinivas 2/15).
